Baby’s scent is fresh, cuddly, playful but innocent; angelic at most. Nobody can’t resist the smell of a baby for they are pure. This niche has been explored from soap and other toiletries; even your toothpaste. Well, who can resist a baby’s breath; they are so happy and yet innocent. Can we possibly bottle that? Why do companies attempt to bottle something pure? I think we can’t really bottle something pure as baby’s scent; we can only imitate nature. I think it is politically correct to say that perfumers only wanted to preserve what we popularly thought to be a baby’s archetypal scent. I mean, we can’t be a baby forever; so bottling a similar baby scent is the only way to preserve those memories.
Why i love baby’s scent? This is because their body chemistry is pure, not yet exposed to toxic agents and pollutants; and you would argue that producing something laden with impurities defeat the purpose; you would say contaminating something pure is like desecrating nature; I dare say enhancing and not contaminating. This is why companies do produce hypoallergenic only; sans alcohol. Dolce & Gabbana is launching today its latest scent for babies. One of the many which attempted bottling coveted baby scent. Though i haven’t tried D&G baby yet; we’ll explore those who had come before.
It is a scent that is short lived because sooner the hormone strikes and that could change body’s chemistry as we grow up. I’m not saying we stop smelling good when we grow up. The thing is we develop our own body chemistry dependent of our diet, lifestyle, hygiene and all other factors affecting what could be our signature scent. Remember when your father or mother said that your room or anything you own smells (insert your name here) that is the day you develop your own signature scent; your unique aroma recognized by people close to you as you. That is also the day, baby scent has gone and all the innocence with it. One good reason i could come up why companies are banking on it; to preserve the lost innocence.
We can’t argue with parents saying their baby’s scent is innocent and pure. True that. It’s a bond thing between parents and their babies. I mean they grow up loving their mom and dad’s smell even if they smell fart. It’s a bond thing really that a child developed since childbirth who got attached to that signature scent of a mother that a child depends on for survival or vise versa. Bvlgari Petits et Mamans, a shared scent by mother and child captured this bond.
You can’t be a baby forever and one wants to remember how it was when you baby sit your nieces and nephews; how innocent it was when they pee on you; how pure the joy was when you play with them.
You want to preserve that scent and memories and admittedly, you want to smell like a baby even if you can’t sleep like one, at least you can perfectly smell like a baby with these bottled goodies.
